Syn. Justicia, Drejerella, Duvernoia, Libonia. Genus of about 420 species of evergreen perennials, shrubs and subshrubs from a wide range of habitats in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide and from temperate North America. Beloperone is an easy-to-grow shrubby plant which bears salmon-coloured, prawn-shaped flower-heads at the end of the arching stems. The blooms appear nearly all year round. When young, remove some of the first flowers to make sure that a vigorous bush is formed. Cut the plant back to half size each spring. Beloperone may grow up to 3-4 ft high.
